J. CARMAN, inc. is pleased to invite you to consign individual items with us. Your items may be included in an upcoming estate sale or auction, or may be offered for sale on this website. We utilize our network of collectors and affiliates to successfully locate buyers for your items. We are so confident that you will be satisfied with our brokerage services that we offer a special guarantee. If you are able to sell your item before we are, you are invited to do so, with no penalty whatsoever. Consigning items is free of charge. J. Carman, inc. takes financial responsibility of cataloging and advertising your items. If we do not sell your consigned item, you do not owe us a dime. Consignment rates are a sliding scale, based on the amount of time it takes to sell your item. If we sell your item within 30 days, the consignment rate is 30% of the selling price. If we sell your item between the 30th and 60th day, it is 25%. After 60 days the rate drops to a low 20%!
What is the first step in brokering an item with J. Carman, Inc? If you are interested in having J. Carman, inc. help with the dispersal of your belongings, please contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation. We will visit you to examine your property and to discuss your financial expectations of the sale of your item. We will be able to give you a ballpark idea of what might be a realistic asking price for your particular objects. This consultation does not obligate you in any way to use our brokerage services, although we hope that you will. We would be pleased to help! Can I set a reserve price for my item that is higher than what you suggest? Yes. You have the final say as to the minimum selling price that would be acceptable to you. However, you must be aware that the higher your reserve price rises beyond what we suggest, it proportionately decreases the liklihood of a successful sale. How long does a consignment last? Our consignment contracts expire after six months, or upon either party's cancellation of the contract at an earlier date. How soon will I receive the profit from the sale of my property? J. Carman, inc. issues checks five days a week. The same day that the payment for your item arrives, your check will be mailed to the home address provided on the consignment contract. Do you take possession of my item during a period of consignment? Usually not. Your items remain with you until they are purchased, or until it becomes necessary to allow an interested buyer a personal inspection of your property. In special consignment circumstances, such as for items that are consigned for sale at one of our public Fine and Decorative Art Auctions, the items are physically present at the sale venue. Otherwise, we attempt to generate interest in your items via quality photographs that are shared with visitors to our website and individual collectors who have expressed a special interest in your property type. By doing this we decrease our overhead costs, allowing us to offer you low consignment fees. How do I set up an appointment regarding brokerage?
